The Naito Foundation Subsidy for Invitation of Overseas Scientists

Purpose

  • To support expense for inviting overseas researchers of the basic research of natural science that contributes to the promotion of health of human being.

Qualification of applicants

  1. The chairperson of an organizing committee when he/she wants to invite an overseas researcher who is internationally highly reputed and puts unique and energetic efforts into basic research of natural science that contributes to the promotion of health of human being. (However, directors, auditors, councilors and members of selection committee of the Foundation cannot apply for this support.)
  2. Limited to one application for inviting to the same academic meeting held in the same fiscal year.
  3. The invitation period must be within the following dates.

  4. The support must be declined if an inviting researcher cannot come to Japan after the subsidy is adopted.
  5. A person who belongs to the same class (course) with the member of selection committee of the Naito Foundation cannot apply for this support.

Recommending person

  1. University related people
    • Graduate school: The head of the graduate course
    • Faculty: Dean
    • Research Organization: The director/head of the research organization
    • Other university organization (Research center, research institute, etc.): President

    If there are both a faculty of medical research and a medical school, either one can be a recommending person.

    Note: A director of research center, a director of research institute or a director of hospital cannot be a recommending person.

  2. Research organizations other than universities: A responsible representative at the basic research organization approved by the board of directors of the Foundation (*Necessary documents are mailed to these research organizations.)
  3. Board of directors, auditors and councilors of the Foundation
    (※A member of selection committee is not able to become a recommending person.)
  4. The representative person of academic meetings specified by the Foundation (*Necessary documents are mailed to them.)
  • The number of recommendation is one per one recommending person (one for the first period and one for the second period respectively).

Deadline date

  • First period: It must arrive at the Foundation by June 1 (Wednesday), 2011
  • Second period: It must arrive at the Foundation by October 3 (Monday), 2011

Screening method

  • The board of directors' meeting decides the person after being reviewed by the selection committee.

Number of subsidy

  • Number of subsidy: Within 10 subsidies for the first and the second period respectively (Within the range of budget.)
  • The result shall be reported to the applicant and the recommending person in October 2011 for the first period and in February 2012 for the second period.

Time of remittance

  • First period: December 2011
  • Second period: March 2012

Note

  • The subject academic program and circular etc. stating the name of the chairperson of the organizing committee and the inviting speaker must be accompanied with the application form.
  • A duplicate copy must be attached with it.

Reporting duties

  1. Sponsor: When the inviting overseas speaker delivers a lecture at the subject academic meeting, it must be clearly stated in the program, etc. that it is supported by The Naito Foundation.
  2. Report of academic meeting result and report of expenditure: The chairperson of the organizing committee must submit these reports within one month after the end of invitation using the designated form.
  3. When the invitation is cancelled: When the planned researcher cancels the visit to Japan, it must be notified to the Foundation since the subsidy must be declined.
